I think it’s funny when someone accuses me of not ‘being a spiritual person’ because of something that I have said, and I know that everyone has their own interpretation of what being a spiritual person is, so here’s my take on it.
Being a spiritual person doesn’t mean that you can’t set boundaries, and by that I mean being a spiritual person doesn’t mean you have to take shit off people, that you are allowed to stand up for yourself and not be disrespected. It also means that you should be respectful to others and their boundaries as well.
Being a spiritual person doesn’t mean that you can’t be sexy, you like sexy clothing, lingerie or kinky shit? Go for it, as long as what you’re wearing or doing isn’t causing harm to anyone, hey who am I to judge what goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults!
Being a spiritual person doesn’t mean that you can’t like stuff, like shoes (god I LOVE shoes!) or bling, or having a nice car, but it does mean that you aren’t keeping up with the Joneses or trying to impress anyone with what you own or that you become jealous because someone has something that you don’t, it means that you’re not caught up in buying stuff all the time, but hey, if you like to occasionally treat yourself to something pretty or blingy or that you’ve always wanted, go for it, you deserve it.
Being a spiritual person doesn’t mean that you can’t get angry or swear – I swear all the fucking time! I also get extremely pissed off, especially when people aren’t patient and demanding of my time. But what it does mean is that you don’t let the anger stew inside of you, that you get angry and then let it go you don’t let it consume you.
You know why I think being a spiritual person doesn’t mean all that stuff? Because we’re all fucking human with emotions, that’s why, as far as I’m concerned it’s OK to be happy, mad, sad, upset, cranky, stupid, earn money and to make mistakes because by doing all of those things shows that we are human, that we are growing every single day, that we are learning from others and also by our own reactions. The key is not to let those emotions rule us, to also be compassionate not just to others but to ourselves as well.
If you think being a spiritual person is some perfect person who never feels a single emotion or shows any humanity at all, then you’ll never find that person because they just don’t exist. If that’s what you’re striving to be, then stop it, because you’re human, so cut yourself some slack, relax and enjoy life because that is what this journey is about.
