What is Forgiveness?
I’m sitting here at Hamilton Rainbow Runner, filling in for one of the readers who can’t work today, and there is a banner on the wall with a quote from the Dali Lama:-
“In the practice of tolerance, one’s enemy is the best teacher. We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”
So true. So many of us carry a burden because of what someone else has done or said to them. My personal belief is that forgiving someone doesn’t mean that you accept what they did or said, or that it makes what happened OK. Because it doesn’t. But even if the person who hurt you doesn’t ask for forgiveness, it’s important to be able to forgive them for whatever it is, so that you can move forward in your life. As the Dali Lama has said, you can never obtain peace in your world if you haven’t made peace with yourself.
If you can’t face the person who hurt you, then write them a letter and then burn it and let your angels and guides take away the hurt and anger that you carry so that you can be at peace with yourself so you can move forward. It’s about getting closure for yourself so that peace can come into your lives.
We all need to be able to live in Peace and Happiness, it’s the best place to be.
