It’s Valentine’s Day. For me it’s my wedding anniversary! I don’t personally go for the whole “if you love someone buy them something expensive” propaganda. My GG and I celebrate the day that we fell in love, yep, we know the actual day, not our wedding anniversary. We’re tragic, I know.

But for us we tell each other we love each other a dozen times a day. When I talk to my son on the phone at the end of the call we tell each other we love each other, that’s what is important to me, not being given an iron on Mother’s Day or flowers on Valentine’s Day etc.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, I visited a friend in Denver a few years ago, and you know how we’re always saying how we are becoming “Americanised”. That’s not how they celebrate Valentine’s Day! My friend was explaining that in Denver at least, Valentine’s Day is when you let you’re neighbour know that you appreciate them being a great neighbour (if they are!) or that you let your teacher know that they’re a great teacher, and just recognising your friends for being there for you and supporting you.

Isn’t that a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? I think it’s wonderful. I’m at the Rainbow Runner today and the following is a meaning of Compassion on a wall hanging….

Live with compassion
Work with compassion
Die with compassion
Meditate with compassion
Enjoy with compassion
When problems come,
Experience them with compassion.

So, on this 14th day of February, being Valentine’s Day, let your friends and loved ones, neighbours and anyone else you can think of know how much you appreciate them and are glad that they are in your life.
