So, what’s your excuse? What’s your excuse for not doing those things that you want to do? That you keep putting off?
On Friday I went to a women’s business networking event in Sydney and there were lots of inspirational women and lots of free goodies for me as I was a ‘VIP’  One woman in particular that I listened to was Ronni Kahn and if you don’t know who she is, well she’s founder of OzHarvest and she was giving a brief overview of her life and how she was in a pretty good spot she had a restaurant and was pretty well horrified at all the wastage and realised that all the other restaurants around would have the same kind of wastage and then did some research about how much food is thrown away and seriously, it’s such a huge waste. And she knew that she wanted to do something about it and so she did and set up OzHarvest where people go and collect the leftover food from all the restaurants around and give it to those that are in need.
She also said that she wants to spread the word to not make excuses, if there is something that you want to do, then the time to do it is now. She said that a tragedy happened to her family and she had to stop and take a big drink of water to continue and she bravely did and with her voice cracking, she told our her son and daughter-in-law set up their own charity and then her daughter-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and passed away 8 weeks later. 8 WEEKS LATER.
There won’t always be tomorrow. There won’t always be later. There won’t always be retirement.
What’s your excuse?
I remember many moons ago, when I worked in a doctor’s surgery a couple reached retirement and they were so excited that they had the caravan and after working hard all their lives were finally able to do the Grey Nomad trip around Australia for a year. A couple of days into their trip they were in a car accident and he was killed instantly. We were all absolutely guttered, they were such a beautiful couple just about to ‘live the dream’. The dream was over.
What’s your excuse?
“I’m waiting until the kids leave home”
“I’m waiting for retirement”
“I’m waiting until I lose weight”
“I’m waiting until I have money”
“I’m waiting because my parents may need me”
I’ve told this story before how when we sold our farm and moved into what was our investment property, instead of doing the ‘financially viable solution” of putting all the money onto our mortgage I sat down and said, ‘we may never have this money again, let’s go overseas’ so we did. We were gone for 8 weeks and did 2 tours, one through Great Britain and Ireland, and then Europe, we stopped over in Hong Kong, I’ve been to Buckingham Palace, Alex has kissed the Blarney Stone, been to the top of the Eiffel Tower, seen the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, saw the statue of David in Florence, cruised through the Greek Islands, ate Black Forest Cake in the Black Forest, to name a few places and stopped at Singapore on the way back. Alex’s 15th birthday present was going to Pompeii. It cost us a lot of money and we don’t regret it for one moment.
Don’t make excuses, you’ll find a way, be brave, live the life you want, because we don’t always know what is around the corner.
So, what’s your excuse? Ask yourself if that excuse really is worth putting off living your life? Because if you let it there will ALWAYS be a reason that you can’t go on that holiday, move house, go bush, do the sea change, build your dream home, study for the job you’ve always wanted.
It’s about enjoying your life it’s about LIVING your life, NOW. Not later, not ‘I’m waiting till …..”
To quote Ronni – the time is NOW. Not later. Now.
