As I sit here typing up this blog, Australia is burning.

The fires are so huge and intensive that they’re creating their own weather systems with lightening that is starting more fires.

The fire front is over 100km (62 miles) wide.  That’s just one front.

It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see the absolute decimation of homes, towns, wildlife and stock and of course the loss of human life.

Yet, we Aussies are a resilient bunch and when the going gets tough, the tough do get going.

Amongst all that devastation it’s just so beautiful to see the amount of people that are donating goods to help those that have lost everything.

Donating money to fundraisers to help the wildlife that have been injured, or to the volunteer fire brigades.

Yes, in Australia our rural fires are fought by bloody amazing volunteers, that have given up their personal time to fight a fire storm that’s now been going for months.

In moments like these you see the true heart of Australians.

I’m not posting anything on Facebook like ‘buy a reading and I’ll donate $X’ – JUST DONATE!

I’ve donated money to the Drought Angels, #buyfromthebush, Animal Rescue and The Red Cross.

If you can’t donate money, use this time to really go through your possessions, do you really need all those shoes / clothes / handbags / kids toys etc?

I’m a firm believer that we all have just way too much shit and you wouldn’t miss half of it if you donated it.

I know when we had fires here in Qld a couple of months back, I wasn’t in any danger but I had a little bag packed for me and Monty.

I walked around our house and I really didn’t care if things were lost in a fire.

None of that stuff means more than life.

I also don’t want someone risking their lives trying to save my home.  It’s just a house with stuff in it, as long as we’re safe that’s all that matters to me.

I know for me, this has been one of those wake-up calls that we sometimes need, when we’re not in the fire zone. Think about what really matters in your life.

Offer comfort to those that need it. Donate to help those on the front line and if you can’t afford to do that, donate items, or donate your time if you can to making sandwiches or coffee.

Every little bit counts when it comes to kindness and compassion.

Stay safe everyone. xxxx
