Are you someone that regularly checks your horoscope?

I always find it funny that people that don’t follow astrology usually know what star sign they are! LOL

Whether for the fun of it, or because you’re an avid follower, you may have been a bit shocked to hear that there’s a ‘new’ star in the horoscope.

But is it really?

When I was asked my thoughts on it, I actually just kind of dismissed it.

As far as I am concerned, when they downgraded Pluto from a planet in August 2006 to a ‘dwarf planet’ it made no difference whatsoever on the astrology side of things.

So, why would a ‘new’ star sign make any difference?

The new star sign is called Ophiuchus as in classed as the 13th house – there’s always been 12.

It meant to sit nice and comfy between Scorpio and Sagittarius, which means that all the star signs have to change to fit this new dude in.

Just to be clear, the 12 star signs of the zodiac were developed by the Babylonians (So, I’ve been told) which means that they’ve been around for about 2,500 of years.

However, I then realised that I shouldn’t dismiss it and that I needed to do a bit of research.

So, I asked my awesome friend and professional Astrologer Michelle Oberdorf – (if you’d like to book a personal astrology reading with her, then click >>HERE. ) what she thought of this new star.

Like me, Michelle thinks it’s all garbage and apparently something that they ‘roll out’ every few years or so, even though NASA has ‘officially’ recognized it. Michelle has said that it doesn’t change your sun sign.

Phew.

Mind you, I had a look at the ‘new’ dates that they put forward to fit this new fella into the system and I’m still a Leo, so all good. LOL

So, is your star sign going to change?

Well, not really.  The signs of the zodiac are a 12 fold division of the ecliptic – the plane of Earth’s orbit around the sun as the mentioned, devised by the Babylonians.

Each sign spans 30 degrees of celestial longitude, which is the approximate distance the sun travels in a month.

However, what you need to realise is that, constellations are unequal in size and are actually only loosely associated with the signs of the zodiac.

They do not generally coincide with the existing signs they are associated with anyway, so if you’re outraged by the ‘change’ in your star sign, don’t worry, it hasn’t really altered.

However, if you want to see what the changes would be, according to NASA (and you may actually find that you feel more attuned to the ‘new’ sign that you will be) ….. here’s the new dates:

Capricorn: January 20 – February 16

Aquarius: February 16 – March 11

Pisces: March 11 – April 18

Aries: April 18 – May 13

Taurus: May 13 – June 21

Gemini: June 21 – July 20

Cancer: July 20 – August 10

Leo: August 10 – September 16

Virgo: September 16 – October 30

Libra: October 30 – November 23

Scorpio: November 23 – November 29

Ophiuchus: November 29 – December 17

Sagittarius: December 17 – January 20

Me?  I’m sticking with what the Babylonians created, why mess with a good thing.  😊

What are your thoughts on the new star sign?

I would love to hear.

Love & Light
