How do you know if you’re on the right path?
I actually don’t feel that this is a black and white answer as everyone is different as is the way they travel their path.
However, I’m sure that some of the things that I’m going to talk about you’ll gel with, and hopefully, they’ll help you decide whether or not you’re on the right path.
When I say ‘right path’ that could be career, relationship, life purpose. It doesn’t matter which, you just need to apply it to whichever situation you’re questioning.
Alright!
If you’re asking yourself “Am I on the right path?” to work out whether or not you are, is actually not that difficult.
Let’s be honest, when things are going just as you had hoped, you’re not really going to be asking yourself that question!
It’s when things start to go ‘wrong’ or maybe you’re listening to detractors or even that gut instinct of yours is starting to get louder.
One thing you’ll find is that when you’re on the right path, initially at least, things just seem to fall into place. You might write it off as a co-incidence but it’s the spiritual world letting you know that you’re heading in the right direction.
So, if this happens, then why do things go wrong? Why do relationships fail etc?
Just because we start a relationship with someone that seems perfect, or you land that job you’ve always wanted, doesn’t mean that it’s what you have to do forever.
Sometimes the right path isn’t meant to be a long journey but instead a short one for you to learn and grow. That’s why relationships fail. It’s hopefully done it’s job and if not, you’ll just repeat the mistakes. That’s why we get bored in our jobs, why we change careers or discover a new passion in life.
It’s called growth!
Who you were at 18 is hopefully a very different person to who you are at 30 so why would the path that you chose at 18 still be the right one for you? Oh and having said that, if you’re still doing the same job for example at 18 as at 30, that doesn’t mean you haven’t grown. If you love it and it still brings you joy, then stay at it!
If you’re on the right path you’ll find the following. Well maybe not ALL of the following, but you get my drift!
- You’re energized – you’re really excited about what you’re doing, even when you have to put in long hours or a lot of effort. It just doesn’t seem like it.
- You’re not making yourself do things that you feel uncomfortable (in an icky way, not to be confused with uncomfortable out of comfort zone way) doing.
- You’re not having to apologise all the time for the choices that you’ve made.
- You don’t need to compromise on the big, important things in your life.
- You’re confident in the decisions that you have to make, even when they’re difficult.
When you’re not on the right path you may find some of the following:-
- You’re no longer energized. You feel drained and it’s a struggle to stay motivated.
- You have absolutely no idea on where things are taking you. You feel you’ve lost site of the vision and that you have lost your personal power.
- You feel as though you’ve ‘lost yourself’ with what you’re doing.
- You find yourself constantly compromising to the point where you are actually betraying yourself and your values.
When you know you’re on the wrong path, that’s when you’ll leave that job you hate or end that relationship that just isn’t going anywhere. And by doing so, you give yourself a sense of freedom.
I just want to end on this note, if you think you’re on the right path but things just seem difficult, you may need to ask yourself if it’s the spirit world testing you to see how much you really want it.
For example, do you really want that career change. If you can’t get into the university of your choice, it might mean you have to move to study?
When things don’t always go according to plan, it doesn’t mean it’s definitely the end. It’s more the universe asking you to reassess. So ask yourself, is this relationship still what you want? Is this job the one that you still want to be doing? Is this passion of yours still bringing you passion?
If the answer is yes, then keep going.
If the answer is no, then it’s time to make the big decision and change the path that you’re on.
