How to Set Intentions by the Phasing of the Moon
Just in case you aren’t aware, not only are our emotions connected to the phases of the moon, but we can also use that moon energy to set intentions.
We’ve all heard things like ‘urgh Mercury’s in retrograde’ when things don’t go well, especially around communication.
So, if Mercury (and all the other planets) can affect the energies of how things work, then why can’t the moon?
You can actually set intentions to all of the eight phases of the moon. Most people know about the full moon, which is the fifth phase. However, this is not the only time when you can set your intentions and use the moon energy to help you along!
I’ll explain briefly what the phases of the moon represent so you know when to set your intentions to align with its energy.
Before that, when it comes to making intentions, remember the following:
- Know what you want to say with your intention, whether that’s a prayer or a statement connecting you to the Universe. Don’t just write things down and forget about them, that’s not how things work!
- Make a special space to do this, whether that’s an altar or a special place in a room. You may want to place crystals around, or plants, inspiring pictures and make it uniquely yours.
- Do some lovely deep breaths to help center yourself before you write down your list. Inhale through your nose filling not just your lungs but feel your diaphragm expand as well. Hold for a second and then slowly exhale through your mouth. Do this about three times.
- Write down your intentions. Don’t turn it into a shopping list though! Stick to a couple of things so you don’t stretch yourself too thinly trying to make things happen. Hand writing is something magical, so if you want to, purchase a little journal where you can write your intentions down each phase of the moon or each month.
- With each phase you have 48 hours to help manifest what you are trying to achieve. So, make sure you take advantage of that time.
- If something doesn’t happen that you were trying to create, just do it again the next month.
And here are the moons phases ….
New Moon – Day 0 – Invisible to the eye is also called the dark moon because you can’t see it! This moon is used for creating a new start in life, love and career. New beginnings, a fresh start, a blank page.
Waxing Crescent Moon – Day 3 – Putting together your plans, constructing them to create your vision. Intentions, hopes and wishes.
First Quarter Moon – Day 7 – Utilizing your resources to accomplish your wish – it’s a moon of growth. Challenges, decisions to be made and action.
Waxing Gibbous Moon – Day 11 – Fine tune your goals, final stages in planning things. Adjustments, refining and editing.
Full Moon – Day 13-25 – Time to rid yourself of negative thoughts, cleanse your energies. You will also be able to see where you are in the process of realizing your vision/dreams. Signed, sealed and stamped.
Waning Gibbous – Day 18 – Be able to understand and share what you’ve learnt because it will give you a clearer understanding of what you need to do next. Gratitude, sharing and enthusiasm.
Last Quarter Moon – Day 21 – Getting ready to move forward to the next step in your intention, you’ll be able to sort out and understand what else you need to do. Release, let go and forgive.
Waning Crescent Moon – Day 25 – Take the time to retreat and release all attachments that you have to the outcome of your vision so you have clarity to begin again with the next new moon. Surrender, rest time to recuperate.
I hope these help you to set your intentions better!
