Loving what you do
I always try and deal with people that love what they do. Where I get my coffee from across the road from my office, the guy loves making coffee, it’s an art form and watching him make a coffee is a joy because he’s just so passionate about creating a great coffee for every single person.
I figure that if you need something done you want someone that loves what they do, not only does it mean that they will do a good job but also they’re putting great energy into whatever it is that they are doing. If you’re car needs fixing go to a mechanic that loves being a mechanic, not one that’s there under sufferance and always complaining about what they have to do. Need a house cleaner? Find someone that really loves leaving a clean home for you to come home to, not someone that is just going through the motions.
And the same applies to us, whatever we do, we need to enjoy what we are doing so that we put that good energy towards whoever it is we deal with and then we get good energy back, it doesn’t matter what it is, you may love being a bus driver, that’s fantastic! We need great bus drivers, it doesn’t matter what the role is that you do, you need to know that it is important.
To end with George Burns …. I’d rather be a failure at something I love than a success at something I hate.
