Have you ever felt kind of stuck on your spiritual path?

There you are all excited and you’re meditating and doing rituals. Then, it just seems to be the same old same old and you don’t feel that you’re growing at all.

You may get discouraged and wonder if you’re doing things right because you see other people beaming their joy in what they’re experiencing ….

But for you ……..  crickets.

I’m going to share four things with you today that can become obstacles in your spiritual growth.

  1. Thinking that you need to BE or Do something you are not – you don’t. First things first, don’t compare the path that you’re on with someone else’s, because we’re all different.  Not everyone is meant to be a clairvoyant or a world famous speaker or a spiritual guru. Becoming enlightened isn’t from something that you DO it’s about an awakening a realisation of what is within you an awareness of what is beyond you.  Thinking that you have to physically do something actually stops you from being who you truly are and believe it or not, thinking that way is a stumbling block to growth.
  2. Believing that you’re not worthy …. Also called imposter syndrome! Which I’m sure many of you suffer from.  On your spiritual journey just remember that you don’t have to be a buddha, spiritual enlightenment isn’t for a select few, it’s for everyone in their own way.  Again, the reminder of not comparing your journey to someone else’s will make things a lot easier.  Being spiritual is something that you do every day, you don’t need to join an Ashram to get there.
  3. Failing to apply what you learn – far too often we keep putting off actually implementing things in our lives because we feel that we need to ‘learn one more thing’ when in reality, becoming more spiritual is just small things that you can do every day and that you should be doing every day. You don’t need to do another workshop, or read another book, there are things that you just start doing without feeling that you need to have all the answers before you begin. You’re not performing surgery so need to know every case scenario of what may or may not happen and how to deal with it.  Just start, right now.
  4. Thinking that you know/understand it all – You don’t. You never do. It’s a continuing journey for all of us and as we experience different things as we get older, there’s more understanding to be had.  This is a major obstacle for people, they do some meditations, do a workshop and think that they know everything they need to know and then …… they get stuck.  Marketing expert Seth Godin describes this phenomenon perfectly. When you learn a little bit about something, you believe you’re an expert. When you keep learning, you feel like a beginner again, and when you reach true mastery, you understand how far you still have to go.  If you think that you’ve reached a pinnacle and that you know everything you need to, you’re probably in a resting phase before another revelation happens.  Accept that you’ll never know it all and this is just a wonderful exciting journey of growth.

What do you think?  I would love to hear from you.

Love & light
